#1 Highlanders win two at Vernon
The #1 McLennan Highlanders swept today's conference doubleheader with the Vernon Chaparrals in Vernon
Taryn Batterton picked up the 14-0 run-rule win in the circle for the Highlanders in the opener.
McLennan scored six runs in the third inning. Madison Garcia singled, stole second and scored on a single by Taylor Meier. Madison Hornback walked and stole second. Kyla Heine then doubled to score Meier and Hornback. Katia Reyes followed with a two-run homer. Chesnee Faile doubled and advanced on a wild pitch. Mickayla Tosch walked, and Faile scored on another wild pitch.
Six more Highlander runs scored in the fourth. Meier and Hornback both singled. Meier was caught stealing, and Hornback scored on a single by Trinity Allen. Heine and Reyes both singled, loading the bases. Faile followed with the base-clearing double. Tosch singled and Garcia walked, reloading. Ellie Loveless then singled to score Faile, and Tosch scored on a ground out by Meier.
The final two runs scored in the top of the fifth as Makenzi Jenkins and Heine both singled and scored on a double by Aynsli Lawson.
The Highlanders defeated the Chaparrals 10-4 in game two with Brinly Maples getting the win in the circle.
McLennan took the lead early with a run in the top of the first. Meier walked, advanced on a wild pitch and moved to third on passed ball. Hornback and Reyes also walked, loading the bases. Faile then walked to score Meier.
Vernon took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Abby Bates walked and Kynlee Lewis singled. Lewis was out at second on a fielder's choice by Katlyn Clark. Kylie Phillips walked, loading the bases. Anslie Roach then singled to score Bates, and Clark scored on a single by Katie Rodriguez.
McLennan regained the lead with six runs in the top of the fifth. Hornback singled and scored on a double by Allen. Reyes reached on an error, and Faile singled to load the bases. Allen scored on a sacrifice fly by Lilly Rocha, and Tosch doubled to score Reyes and Faile. Maples then doubled to score Tosch. Heine came in as a pinch runner for Maples, and scored on an error.
Three more Highlander runs scored in the top of the sixth. Allen walked and Loveless singled. Faile followed with a three-run homer.
The Chaparrals founded out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Phillips and Roach both walked. All runners were safe on a fielder's choice by Rodriguez, scoring Phillips. Roach then scored on a ground out by Mia Garcia.
