Highlanders run rule San Jacinto
The sixth-ranked McLennan Highlanders closed out Day 1 of the Battle on the Bosque with a 12-4 run-rule win over the San Jacinto Ravens.
McLennan scored one run in the first. Madison Garcia drew a lead-off walk and stole second. Ellie Loveless then singled, and Garcia scored on an error.
Two more Highlander runs scored in the second. Maddie Moore walked and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Garcia. Madison Hornback walked, and Moore stole home. Hornback stole second and Trinity Allen walked. Loveless singled, and Brinly Maples walked to score Hornback.
McLennan added five runs in the third. Sarah Johnson and Moore walked, and Garcia single to load the bases. Hornback walked, scoring Johnson, and Allen walked to score Moore. Loveless followed with a double to score Garcia and Hornback. Maples walked, and Allen scored on a wild pitch.
The Highlanders final four runs came in the bottom of the fourth. Moore singled and Garcia walked. Ally Thompson then singled to score Moore. Allen followed with a three-run homer.
All four San Jacinto runs came in the top of the fifth. Iliana Melendez, Kiren Diaz and Arriana Wright all walked, loading the bases. Chloe Foster singled to score Melendez and Diaz. Angelina Morales then singled to score Wright, and Foster scored on an error.
