McLennan Softball players snag post-season honors
Nine McLennan Softball players were named to the 2023 North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference All-Conference awards list. First-team honors went to Erin Plunkett, Katia Reyes, Rachel Wicker, Madison Hornback and Matie Wolkow.
Sophomore infielder Erin Plunkett was named the Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team selection. Plunkett appeared in all 32 conference games, recording a .545 batting average with 55 hits, seven doubles, five triples, three home runs, 33 RBI, 52 runs scored, 16 walks and 24 stolen bases. She had a .991 fielding percentage with 40 putouts, 65 assists and only one error.
Freshman pitcher Katia Reyes had an 8-1 record in 10 appearances in conference play. She pitched 51.1 innings with a 1.64 ERA,allowing 12 earned runs and 41 hits while striking out 45.
Sophomore infielder Rachel Wicker appeared in all 32 conference games, recording a .427 batting average with 41 hits,10 doubles, six triples, three home runs, 35 RBI, 32 runs scored, 12 walks and 14 stolen bases.
Freshman outfielder Madison Hornback appeared in 27 conference games with a .419 batting average, 36 hits, eight doubles, three triples, six home runs, 31 RBI, 27 runs scored, 11 walks and four stolen bases.
Sophomore pitcher Matie Wolkow had a 5-0 record in eight conference appearances. She pitched 46.1 innings with a 2.27 ERA, allowing 15 earned runs and 41 hits while striking out 13.
Second-team honorees included Makenzi Jenkins, Riley Rutherford, Sydney Kirby and Taylor Meier.
Freshman Makenzi Jenkins had an 8-2 record in 11 conference appearances. She had a 4.13 ERA in 61.0 innings of work, allowing 36 earned runs and 69 hits while striking out 38.
Sophomore catcher/designated player Riley Rutherford appeared in 30 conference games, recording a .409 batting average with 36 hits, 10 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 36 RBI, 32 runs scored, 12 walks and six stolen bases.
Sophomore first baseman Sydney Kirby appeared in 29 conference games with a .480 batting average, 36 hits, 13 doubles, one triple, five home runs, 33 RBI, 26 runs scored, 22 walks and two stolen bases.
Freshman outfielder Taylor Meier appeared in 28 conference games, recording a .400 batting average with 28 hits, four doubles, three triples, 17 RBI, 33 runs scored, 10 walks and 12 stolen bases.
Reyes, Rutherford, Plunkett, Hornback and Wicker were also named to the Region V All-Region team.
