McLennan advances to championship with shutout of Weatherford
The No. 9 McLennan Softball squad avenged Friday night's loss to No. 18 Weatherford with an 11-0 shut-out win over the Coyotes this afternoon to advance to Sunday's championship game of the Region V Tournament.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the top of the first at Taylor Meier doubled and scored on a single by Sydney Kirby.
Five more McLennan runs scored in the second. Madison Hornback singled and advanced on a sac bunt by Jalie Neff. Katia Reyes singled, and Kyla Heine singled to score Hornback. Reyes came in to score on an error, and Meier singled. Kirby followed with a three-run homer.
McLennan added four runs in the third. Riley Rutherford led off with a triple and scored on a single by Hornback. Hornback advanced on another sac bunt by Neff. Reyes walked, and Meier reached on an error, scoring Hornback. Erin Plunkett then tripled to score Reyes and Meier.
The final run came in the top of the fifth. Meier singled and advanced on a fielder's choice by Plunkett. Kirby drew a walk to load the bases. Meier then scored on a ground out by Rachel Wicker.
