McLennan Softball stomps Ranger
The 10th-ranked McLennan Softball squad breezed to a pair of run-rule wins over the Ranger Rangers this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan took game one 14-1 with Makenzi Jenkins in the circle. Jenkins allowed just two hits in five innings.
Ranger's only run of the afternoon came in the top of the first inning as Malarie Mican singled and came around to score on an error.
McLennan tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning. Taylor Meier drew a lead-off walk and stole second. Meier then advanced to third on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Erin Plunkett.
Three runs in the second gave McLennan the lead. Sydney Kirby doubled and Chesnee Faile walked, both advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Jalie Neff. Brinly Maples singled to score Kirby, and Faile scored on a ground out by Kyla Heine. Meier then singled to score Maples.
McLennan exploded for eight runs in the third. Plunkett was hit by the pitch, stole second and score on a wild pitch. Rachel Wicker singled and scored on a double by Kirby. Faile walked and Neff singled to score Kirby. Maples walked to load the bases, and Faile scored on a fielder's choice by Heine. Meier also walked, and Plunkett tripled to score Neff, Heine and Meier. Riley Rutherford then doubled to score Plunkett.
The two final runs of the opening game came in the bottom of the fourth. Kirby and Faile both walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Maples also walked, loading the bases. Kirby scored on a sac fly by Heine, and Meier singled to score Faile.
Game two was a 17-0 shutout with Katia Reyes in the circle, allowing just one hit in five innings.
McLennan score one in the bottom of the first as Plunkett singled, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Wicker.
Five runs scored in the second. Madelyn McKinnon doubled and Reyes singled, both advancing on an error. Heine singled to score McKinnon, and Meier singled. Plunkett then singled to score Reyes and Heine. Meier scored on a sacrifice fly by Meier, and Plunkett scored on an error.
McLennan added two more runs in the third. Faile was hit by the pitch and McKinnon doubled. Reyes then singled to score McKinnon, and Heine doubled to score Reyes.
Nine McLennan runs scored in the fourth. Plunkett triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kirby. Destiny Menchaca doubled and Rose Gonzales walked. Emma Bradley-Tse also walked to load the bases. McKinnon singled to score Menchaca, and Gonzales scored on a fielder's choice by Reyes. Heine singled to score Bradley-Tse, and Meier singled to score McKinnon and Reyes. Plunkett followed with a single to score Heine, and Kirby singled. Menchaca followed with a single to score Meier, and Plunkett scored on a sac fly by Gonzales.
