McLennan & Grayson split softball doubleheader
No. 11 McLennan and No. 2 Grayson split today's conference doubleheader in Sherman.
Grayson came from behind to take game one 6-5.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the top of the first. Erin Plunkett drew a lead-off walk and Madison Hornback doubled. Plunkett then scored on a ground out by Riley Rutherford.
Four more McLennan runs scored in the top of the fifth. Rutherford singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Rachel Wicker. Jalie Neff and Sydney Kirby both walked to load the bases. Chesnee Faile followed with a grand slam over the left-field fence.
Grayson scored its first two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Amiah Galcatcher singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Kye Stone. Caitlin Casas singled, and Ayzia Shirey singled to score Stone. Ellie Vance singled and Carsyn Cox walked to score Casas.
Four runs in the sixth gave Grayson the lead and the win. Kenna Collett single and scored on Galcatcher's home run. Daeya Moses doubled and Cases singled. Shirey singled to score Moses, Cases then scored on a single by Cox.
McLennan bounced back to get a 14-5 run-rule win in game two win Brinly Maples picking up the win in the circle.
McLennan scored seven runs in the top of the second inning. Neff drew a lead-off walk and scored on Kirby's home run. Faile singled and Katia Reyes doubled. Wicker followed with a three-run homer. Taylor Meier doubled, advanced to third on a ground out by Plunkett and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hornback. Rutherford followed with a solo home run.
Grayson scored two runs in the bottom of the inning. Stone walked and Moses doubled. Casas followed with a single to score Stone, and Moses scored on a passed ball.
Another McLennan run scored in the third as Reyes singled and scored on a double by Wicker.
Grayson also scored a run in the third as Cox walked and scored on a double by Collett.
Two more Grayson runs scored in the fourth as Moses doubled and scored on a Casas home run.
McLennan sealed the run rule with six runs in the fifth. Faile led off with a solo home run. Wicker and Meier both singled, and Plunkett walked, loading the bases. Rutherford walked to score Wicker, and Neff followed with a grand slam.
