McLennan Softball falls to Temple
No. 9 McLennan Softball dropped both games of today's doubleheader to Temple at Bosque River Ballpark.
Temple came from behind to take game one 7-5.
Temple began the scoring with Shay Grace's solo home run in the top of the first.
McLennan took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Riley Rutherford walked and Taylor Meier reached on an error. Rachel Wicker also walked, loading the bases. Sydney Kirby followed with a single to score Rutherford and Meier.
Another McLennan run scored in the second. Chesnee Faile doubled and Kyla Heine was hit by the pitch. Erin Plunkett hit into a double play, putting Faile out at third. Madison Hornback then singled to score Heine.
McLennan increased the lead with two runs in the fifth. Rutherford walked and scored on a double by Wicker. Kirby walked and was replaced by pinch runner Emma Bradley-Tse. Wicker then scored on a ground out by Rose Gonzales.
Temple got back in the game with three runs in the sixth. Aahmyri Kennedy singled and scored on a triple by Bre Jackson. Jackson scored on an error, and Grace walked. Kate Maola then doubled to score Grace.
Three runs in the top of the seventh sealed the win for Temple. Kennedy walked and Jackson reached on an error. Kennan Nunamaker followed with a triple to score Kennedy and Jackson. Nunamaker then scored on a sacrifice fly by Grace.
Temple took game two 14-6.
The first Temple run scored in the first. Jackson was hit by the pitch, stole second and scored on a single by Grace.
McLennan tied the game with a Kirby home run in the bottom of the inning.
Temple added three runs in the top of the third. Kennedy singled and stole second. Jackson reached on an error, scoring Kennedy. Nunamaker then tripled to score Jackson, and Maola singled to score Nunamaker.
McLennan responded with two runs in the bottom of the third as Plunkett doubled and scored on a Hornback home run.
Three more Temple runs scored in the fifth. Grace and Maola both singled. Elise Munoz came in the pinch runner for Maola, and Channing Lipe came in to run for Grace. Darby Hickey then doubled to score Lipe. Alyssa Budisalovich then singled to score Munoz, and Hickey scored on a fielder's choice by Katie Vasquez.
Two more Temple runs scored in the sixth. Kennedy waked and stole second, and Jackson singled. Kennedy scored on a sac fly by Nunamaker, and Grace singled to score Jackson.
Temple added five runs in the top of the seventh. Hannah Wiggins walked, Kennedy singled and Jackson walked, loading the bases. Nunamaker singled to score Wiggins, and Grace followed with a grand slam.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Madelyn McKinnon walked scored on a single by Plunkett singled. Hornback followed with a two-run homer.
