No. 9 McLennan Softball swept today's conference doubleheader at North Central in Gainesville.
McLennan took game one 8-5 with Makenzi Jenkins getting the win and Brinly Maples picking up the save.
North Central took an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. Gabbi Smith singled, stole second and scored on a double by Raylea Parsons. Alexis Tanguma then doubled to score Parsons.
McLennan took the lead with five runs in the second inning. Sydney Kirby doubled and Madlyn McKinnon drew a walk. Kyla Heine singled to score Kirby. Heine stole second and Erin Plunkett walked. Madison Hornback grounded out to score McKinnon, and Riley Rutherford reached on an error, scoring Heine and Plunkett. Taylor Meier singled and Rutherford scored on an error.
North Central added a run in the bottom of the third. Parsons and Annie Allgood both singled. Tanguma then singled to score Parsons.
McLennan responded with three runs in the top of the fourth. Plunkett singled, stole second and scored on a single by Hornback. Rutherford followed with a triple to score Hornback, and Rutherford scored on a sac fly by Meier.
One North Central run scored in the bottom of the fourth as Delanie Scott doubled and scored on a double by Lauryn Davies.
The final North Central run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth as Parson walked and scored on a double by Allgood.
Game two was a 10-2 five-inning run-rule win for McLennan with Mattie Wolkow in the circle.
McLennan scored three in the top of the first inning. Hornback singled and Rutherford walked. Kirby followed with a single to score Hornback. Rachel Wicker then doubled to score Rutherford and Kirby.
Another McLennan run scored in the third. Rutherford reached on an error but was out on a fielder's choice by Kirby. Meier and Wicker both walked. Kirby then scored on a sac fly by Chesnee Faile.
Both North Central runs came in the bottom of the third. Scott singled and Davies doubled. Smith singled to score Scott, and Davies scored on a ground out by Allgood.
McLennan responded with five runs in the fourth. Heine and Plunkett both walked. Hornback followed with a single to score Heine, and Kirby singled to score Plunkett. A fielder's choice by Meier put Hornback out at the plate. Wicker then tripled to score Kirby and Meier, and Wicker scored on a wild pitch.
The final McLennan run scored in the top of the fifth. Plunkett reached on an error and advanced to third on a ground out by Hornback. Rutherford then singled to score Plunkett.
