McLennan Softball sweeps Weatherford doubleheader
The eighth-ranked McLennan Softball squad swept today's conference doubleheader with the No. 20 Weatherford Coyotes, resulting in a four-game conference series split between the two teams with two wins each.
McLennan took game one 9-2 with Makenzi Jenkins getting the win in the circle.
The first McLennan run came in the top of the first as Erin Plunkett tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Riley Rutherford.
Another McLennan run scored in the second. Rachel Wicker singled, Chesnee Faile walked and Destiny Menchaca singled to load the bases. Wicker then scored on a sacrifice fly by Heine.
Two McLennan runs scored in the third as Rutherford was hit by the pitch and scored on Madison's Hornback home run.
McLennan added four runs in the fourth. Plunkett walked and Jalie Neff singled. Rutherford followed with a three-run homer. Hornback walked and Wicker was hit by the pitch. Chesnee Faile then singled to score Hornback.
Both Weatherford runs came in the fifth as Darlene Montoya doubled and scored on Jeanette Rios' homer.
McLennan ended the scoring with a run in the sixth. Rutherford was hit by the pitch and Hornback singled. Wicker followed with a double to score Rutherford.
McLennan took the nightcap 5-3 with Katia Reyes getting the win and Mattie Wolkow picking up the save.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the top of the first. Neff singled and Hornback doubled. Wicker drew a walk, loading the bases, and Faile doubled to score Neff and Hornback.
Weatherford tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning as Lilly Bean walked and scored on Charlee Horton's home run.
McLennan took the lead with a run in the fourth. Jenkins singled and Plunkett walked. Neff then doubled to score Jenkins.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the seventh. Plunkett led off with a triple and scored on a single by Rutherford. Taylor Meier came in a pinch runner for Rutherford and scored on a single by Wicker.
Weatherford rounded out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Averie Gunther and Bean both walked. Horton then singled to score Gunther.
