McLennan falls to Weatherford
McLennan Softball dropped both games of today's conference doubleheader with the Weatherford Coyotes at Bosque River Ballpark.
Weatherford took game one 6-5 with Makenzi Jenkins taking the loss on the mound.
McLennan scored two runs in the bottom of the third. Madison Hornback and Erin Plunkett both singled and advanced on a ground out by Riley Rutherford. Jalie Neff then singled to score Hornback and Plunkett.
Weatherford's first run came on Jeanette Fonoti's home run in the top of the fifth.
Another Weatherford run in the top of the sixth tied the game at two. Averie Gunther was hit by the pitch, and Lilly Bean drew a walk. Charlee Horton singled, loading the bases. Corigan Beard replaced Horton as the runner at first. Gunther then scored o on a sacrifice fly by Fonoti.
McLennan took the 3-2 lead with a run in the sixth. Neff singled and was replaced by pinch runner Destiny Menchaca. Menchaca advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kyla Heine and scored on a single by Rose Gonzales.
Weatherford scored four runs in the top of the seventh. Jeanette Rios led off with a double. Lencia Powell singled, and Rios scored on an error. Powell advanced o a sacrifice bunt by Carter Smith and scored on fielder's choice by Gunther. Bean followed with a two-run homer.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with two runs in the seventh. Hornback walked and Plunkett singled. Rachel Wicker followed with a fielder's choice, putting Hornback out at third. A double steal advanced both runners, and both scored on a single by Rutherford.
Weatherford came from behind to take game two 13-9.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the first as Plunkett singled, advanced to second on a ground out by Wicker and scored on a single by Rutherford.
A Rios home run tied the game in the top of the third.
McLennan responded with three runs in the bottom of the third. Plunkett singled and stole second. Wicker singled to score Plunkett, and Rutherford followed with a two-run homer.
Weatherford added two runs in the fourth. Horton singled and Annabelle Guay followed with a two-run homer.
McLennan scored four in the bottom of the fourth to take the 8-3 lead. Taylor Meier singled, stole second and advanced to third on an error. Madelyn McKinnon walked, and Hornback singled to score Meier. Plunkett walked, and McKinnon scored on a sacrifice fly by Wicker. Rutherford was hit by the pitch, and Neff singled to score Hornback and Plunkett.
Weatherford cut the lead to two, 8-6, with three runs in the fifth. Gunther reached on an error, and Breklyn Daniell followed with a two-run homer. Guay then doubled and scored on a single by Fonoti.
McKinnon homered in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 9-6 McLennan lead.
Weatherford added two runs in the sixth. Rios tripled and scored on a ground out by Powell. Smith then singled, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Gunther and scored on an error.
Five runs in the top of seventh for Weatherford gave them the win. Guay led off with a solo home run. Fonoti was hit by the pitch but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Darlene Montoya. Rios doubled, and Powell singled to score Montoya. Smith then singled to score Rios, and Bean singled to score Powell and Smith.
