McLennan and Blinn split softball doubleheader
The McLennan and Blinn Softball squads split today's non-conference doubleheader in Brenham.
Blinn took game one 10-2 in six innings.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the second. Jalie Neff led off with a double and scored on a triple by Taylor Meier. Meier then scored on a ground out by Celeste Aguilar.
Blinn tied the game with two runs in the third. Madeline Stephenson led off with a singled and stole second. Alayna Calvillo followed with a single, and Stephenson scored on an error that put Calvillo on third. Emily Kristynik then singled to score Calvillo.
Blinn took the lead with four runs in the fourth. Ripley Welker led off with a single and scored on a double by Madison Dorrow. Stephenson then single to score Dorrow. Erynne Castillo with a fielder's choice, putting Stephenson out at second, and Calvillo reached safely on an error. Castillo and Calvillo both scored on a single by Kristynik.
Blinn sealed the run rule with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Stephenson singled by was out at second on a fielder's choice by Castillo. Calvillo and Kristynik singled to score Castillo. Skylar Shanahan followed with the walk-off three-run homer.
McLennan bounced back to take game two 8-3 with Makenzi Jenkins getting the win in the circle.
McLennan scored two in the top of the first. Rachel Wicker walked, stole second and scored on a double by Riley Rutherford. Neff reached on an error, and Rutherford came in to score on another Blinn error.
Blinn got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first. Calvillo and Kristynik both singled. Calvillo then advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Shanahan.
McLennan added two runs in the third as Wicker singled and scored on Rutherford's home run.
Another McLennan run scored in the fourth as Madelyn McKinnon led off and scored on a single by Madison Hornback.
Blinn scored another run in the bottom of the fourth. Caitlyn Stevens single and advanced on a ground out by Welker. Stevens then moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Dorrow.
McLennan increased the lead with three runs in the fifth. Neff walked and Kyla Heine singled. Chesnee Failed followed with a single to score Neff. Heine then scored on a sacrifice fly by Madelyn McKinnon, and Faile scored on a wild pitch.
Another Blinn run scored in the bottom of the fifth. Calvillo singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Shanahan then singled to score Calvillo.
Blinn rounded out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Castillo was hit by the pitch and Kristynik doubled. Castillo then scored on a ground out by Shanahan.
