McLennan Softball dominates Hill for series sweep
No. 7 McLennan completed the four-game conference sweep of Hill with a pair of victories this afternoon in Hillsboro.
McLennan took game one 10-3 with Brinly Maples getting the win in the circle.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the top of the first. Erin Plunkett led off with a single and stole second. Plunkett then scored on a single by Riley Rutherford.
All three of Hill's runs came in the bottom of the first. Bentleigh Inconcenio single and scored on Kelsey Creech's home run. Celeste Cisneros singled and Eileigh Whyte walked. Cisneros then scored on a McLennan error.
McLennan tied the game with two runs in the third. Rachel Wicker singled and Rutherford doubled. Jalie Neff followed with a single to score Wicker, and Rutherford scored on a sacrifice fly by Celeste Aguilar.
Three runs in the fourth gave McLennan the lead. Taylor Meier singled and Plunkett followed with a mishandled fielder's choice, allowing Meier to score on the error. Wicker grounded out, scoring Plunkett. Rutherford then doubled and scored on a single by Neff.
McLennan added three in the sixth. Rutherford led off with a solo home run. Aguilar then doubled and scored on Kyla Heine's home run.
Plunkett's home run to lead off the top of the seventh rounded out the scoring.
McLennan smashed Hill 19-5 in the final game of the afternoon with Makenzi Jenkins in the circle for the win.
Plunkett led off the top of the first for McLennan with her second home run of the afternoon. Wicker singled and stole second. Rutherford singled, and Wicker scored on a sacrifice fly by Neff.
McLennan added a run in the second. Meier and Aguilar both singled. Meier then stole home.
Two McLennan runs score in the third. Plunkett led off with a home run. Wicker singled and Rutherford drew a walk. Neff singled to score Wicker, and Rutherford stole home.
Hill got on the board with Mallory Stone's home run in the bottom of the third.
McLennan added three more runs in the fourth. Sydney Kirby's solo home run led off the inning. Aguilar and Plunkett both singled. Aguilar then scored on a ground out by Destiny Menchaca, and Neff singled to score Plunkett.
Hill scored three in the fifth. Hannah King and Bailey Hernandez both walked. King scored on a double by Creech. Mackenzie Duckworth then singled to score Hernandez and Creech.
McLennan exploded for 10 runs in the top of the sixth. Menchaca singled and scored on a double by Chesnee Faile. Neff singled and Maples drew a walk. Heine then doubled to score Faile and Neff. Kirby walked and Madison Hornback doubled to score Maples and Heine. Plunkett followed with a single to score Kirby, and Hornback scored on an error. Menchaca reached on an error, scoring Plunkett. Faile followed with a two-run homer.
Hill scored one in the bottom of the sixth to complete the scoring. Stone reached on an error and Inocencio singled. Creech then singled to score Stone.
