McLennan Softball wins one, loses one on opening day of preview tournament
McLennan opened the tournament with a 5-4 loss to the Snead State Parsons. Ainsley Davis took the loss in the circle.
Snead State began the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. Addie Walker was hit by the pitch and scored on a double by Rylee Bartlett. Bartlett then scored on a single by Adelyn Ellis.
The Parsons added a run in the top of the fourth. Janiah Anderson singled and Julia Hurley drew a walk. Anderson then scored on a single by Bartlett.
McLennan got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Kyla Heine reached on an error. Heine then stole second and third, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jalie Neff.
Snead State added another run in the fifth as Brittany Slaten doubled and scored on a single by Anderson.
Another McLennan run scored in the sixth as Heine tripled and scored on an error.
The Parsons final run came in the top of the seventh. Lydia West drew a lead-ff walk, Slaten singled and Anderson was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Jayden Radcliff came in as the pinch runner for West and scored on a wild pitch.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Rachel Wicker led off with a solo home run. Neff then singled and scored on a double by Rose Gonzales.
In the second game of the day, McLennan defeated Volunteer State 5-2 with Brinly Maples picking up the win in the circle.
Volunteer State scored one in the top of the first as Killian Roberts walked, advanced on a pair of passed balls and scored on a single by Sydney Harris.
McLennan took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Taylor Meier led off with a single and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Wicker. Erin Plunkett singled to score Meier. Plunkett advanced to third the throw and scored on a sacrifice fly by Rutherford.
McLennan added a run in the third as Wicker doubled and scored on a ground out by Plunkett.
Another McLennan run scored in the fifth as Meier singled, stole second and scored on a double by Wicker.
The final McLennan run came in sixth. Rutherford doubled and Neff singled. Destiny Menchaca came in as a pinch runner for Rutherford and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Rose Gonzales.
Volunteer State rounded out the scoring with two runs in the top of the seventh. Caylen Conrad singled and Harris reached on an error. Katie Davis drew a walk, loading the bases. Roberts also walked, scoring Conrad, and Harris scored on a sacrifice fly by Grace Gregory.
