McLennan Softball sweeps Salt Lake
The McLennan Softball squad closed out the weekend with a doubleheader sweep of the Salt Lake Bruins at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan took game one 8-0 in five innings with Brinly Maples getting the win in the circle.
Rachel Wicker's solo home run off the scoreboard began the scoring in the bottom of the first.
Another McLennan run scored in the second. Riley Rutherford was hit by the pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Celeste Aguilar singled. Both runners advanced on a passed ball, scoring Rutherford.
McLennan added three runs in the third. Erin Plunkett led off with a solo home run. Kyla Heine walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jalie Neff. Rutherford then doubled to score Heine. Aguilar walked and Rutherford scored on a wild pitch.
Three runs in the bottom of the fourth secured the run rule. Taylor Meier was hit by the pitch, stole second and advanced to third on a fly out by Wicker. Plunkett singled to score Meier, and Heine walked. Plunkett came in to score on an error, and Heine scored on a single by Neff.
McLennan took game two 10-2, also in five innings, with Katia Reyes getting the win and Makenzi Jenkins getting the save.
Salt Lake scored one run in the first as Alyssa Mighell doubled and scored on a single by Bailey Marvin.
The Bruins final run came in the second inning. Miranda Mansfield and Brooklyn Pritchett both singled and advanced on a steal. Mansfield then scored on a fielder's choice by Mighell.
McLennan broke the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the third. Meier walked and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Wicker. Plunkett then tripled to score Meier. Neff singled to score Plunkett, and Rose Gonzales triple to score Neff. Aguilar followed with a single to score Gonzales. Madelyn McKinnon walked, and Sydney Kirby followed with a three-run homer.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the fourth. Plunkett walked, stole second and scored on a single by Heine. Heine stole second and score on a single by Neff.
McLennan sealed the win with a run in the fifth. Kirby singled and was replaced by pinch runner Chesnee Faile. Plunkett singled, advancing Faile to third. Failed then scored on a passed ball.
