McLennan Softball swept the Coastal Bend Cougars in this afternoon's doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan took game one 8-3 with Ainsley Davis getting the complete-game win in the circle.
McLennan scored five runs in the bottom of the second to take control of the game. Erin Plunkett singled and stole second. Kyle Heine also singled and advanced on an error. Plunkett scored on a ground out by Rose Gonzales. Celeste Aguilar singled and advanced on an error, scoring Heine. Madelyn McKinnon walked, and Aguilar scored on a sacrifice bunt by Sydney Kirby. Taylor Meier singled and stole second. Rachel Wicker then singled to score McKinnon and Meier.
Coastal Bend got on the board with two runs in the third. Kayla Martinez doubled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Kelsey Perez. Danielle Pompa walked and Molly Olivarez followed with a fielder's choice. Martinez then scored on a fielder's choice by Juliana Dominguez. Krystal Perez then singled to score Pompa.
McLennan responded with two runs in the bottom of the third as Heine walked and scored on an inside the park home run by Aguilar.
The Cougars' final run came in the top of the fourth. Janice Corona and Martinez both single Corona then scored on a fielder's choice by Kelsey Perez.
McLennan's final run came in the bottom of the fourth as Meier doubled, advanced to third on a ground out by Wicker and scored on a sacrifice fly by Gonzales.
Game two was a 16-2 run-rule win for McLennan with Katia Reyes in the circle.
Coastal Bend scored one in the first as Danielle Pompa reached on an error and scored on a double by Kelsey Perez.
McLennan took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first. Wicker walked and Plunkett reached on an error, scoring Wicker. Plunkett stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Heine. Heine then stole second and scored on a single by Gonzales.
The Cougars score one in the second as Martinez doubled, stole third and scored on a single by Elia Palomo.
McLennan exploded for nine runs in the third. Plunkett led off with a home run. Heine doubled and scored on a triple by Gonzales. Aguilar followed with a fielder's choice, and Destiny Menchaca singled to score Gonzales. Kirby followed with a single to score Aguilar and Menchaca. Meier single to score Kirby. Wicker doubled to score Meier. Plunkett then reached on an error, scoring Wicker. Plunkett stole second and scored on a single by Heine.
The final four McLennan runs scored in the fourth. Emma Bradley-Tse singled and Brinly Maples walked. Chesnee Failed followed with a triple, scoring both runners. Heine singled to score Faile, and Gonzales doubled to score Heine.
