McLennan's season comes to an end with one-run loss to North Central
McLennan Softball's quest for a regional championship and national tournament berth ended this afternoon with a 7-6 extra-inning loss to the North Central Lions. Anissa Arredondo took the loss in the circle for McLennan.
McLennan took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the second inning as Sidney Campion tripled and scored on a single by Kadyn Trochim.
North Central took the lead with three runs in the third inning. Lynzie Rollins and Katie Smith both singled and stole a base. Sasha Jennings singled to score Rollins, and Smith scored on a ground out by Kenzlee Zaher. Alyssa Rios then grounded out to score Jennings.
The Lions added three runs in the fourth to take the 6-1 lead. Heather Hoffman and Jessie Frausto both singled. Annalisa Arredondo replaced Frausto at first, and both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Jessica Grimes. Smith then singled to score Hoffman, and Jennings singled to score Arredondo and Smith.
McLennan added two runs in the fourth as Julia Herzinger walked and scored on a Trochim home run.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the fifth to trim the lead to one, 6-5. Melayna Lopez drew a lead-off walk and Bailey Krolczyk followed with a home run.
McLennan tied the game with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Caitlyn Wong singled and was replaced by pinch runner Kenzie Chambers. Chambers then stole second and third, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Krolczyk
North Central stole the win with a run in the top of the eighth. Liz Linwood doubled and Hoffman singled. Grimes then singled to score Linwood.
McLennan ends the season with an overall record of 42-18.
