Highlanders wallop Loyalty Prep
The McLennan Highlanders walloped Loyalty Prep 96-55 tonight at The Highlands in their first game of 2024.
Loyalty Prep began the scoring with a Lee Layea bucket but both teams were slow to score in the opening minutes of the game. Loyalty Prep built a four-point lead at 12-8 with 15:25 to go in the first half. McLennan responded with a 16-0 run, including six points from Mason Lockhart, over the next four minutes to lead 24-12 with 11:21 to go. Loyalty Prep pulled within nine multiple times but the Highlanders pulled away, leading by as many as 27 down the stretch. McLennan would hold the 53-28 advantage at the break.
Loyalty Prep opened the second half on a 7-0 run but McLennan already had the game in hand. The Highlanders rolled through the second half, using the time to test out player combinations and plays.
Nick Shogbonyo led the Highlanders with 15 points, and Daylon Dickerson added 13. Mason Lockhart and Cameron Crockett scored 14 and 12, respectively. Jaden Juarez, Landon Anderson and Russell Foreman scored 11 each.
