Highlanders slam Fort Cavasos
The McLennan Highlanders slammed the Fort Cavazos Phantom Warriors 106-74 this afternoon at The Highlands.
Fort Cavazos began the scoring with a bucket in the lane from Zach Adair. The Phantom Warriors would lead 5-3 before a jumper by Antwone Gonzales and layup by Daylon Dickerson gave McLennan the 7-5 lead with 16:55 to play in the first half. Ledrick Eackles went 3-3 from the free throw line for Fort Cavazos to go up 8-7 but that would prove to be the Phantom Warriors least lead of the contest. The Highlanders responded with a jumper by Mason Lockhart to go up by one and followed with another bucket by Gonzales to go up by three. McLennan continued to pull away. The Highlanders led 48-33 with one minute to go in the half and ended on a 5-0 run comprised of a 3-pointer by Jaden Walker and a pair of free throws from Landon Anderson to lead by 20 at intermission, 53-33.
With the game already in hand, McLennan opened the second half on a 15-3 run to extend the lead and cruised the rest of the way to the easy victory.
Antwone Gonzales led McLennan with 28 points and Evan Chatman added 20. Daylon Dickerson and Jaden Walker added 16 and 13, respectively.
