Highlanders outshine Suns
The McLennan Highlanders outshined the Cedar Valley Suns 113-73 to head into the Thanksgiving break with a perfect 7-0 record.
McLennan opened on a 5-0 run following a layup by Antwone Gonzales and an and-one by Daylon Dickerson. Already leading 7-2, Nick Shogbonyo went on a 5-0 run on his own to make it a 10-point lead for McLennan at 12-2 with 17:18 to go in the first half. The Highlanders pushed the lead to 15 at 21-6 before the Suns went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead back to seven, 21-14 with 12:47 to play. Another Shogbonyo 3-pointer on the next possession put McLennan back up by double digits. The Highlanders led 50-35 with just over three minutes remaining and ended the half on a 14-4 run including a last-second 3-pointer by Gonzales to make it a 64-39 advantage at the half.
Cedar Valley came out fired up to start the second half. The Suns rallied to trim the McLennan lead to 14, 69-55 with 14:45 remaining in the game. McLennan responded with a 7-0 run and raced away down the stretch to the lop-sided victory.
Nick Shogbonyo led McLennan with 39 points including seven 3-pointers and 28 points in the first half. Antwone Gonzales added 23 points. Daylon Dickerson and Jaden Walker scored 18 and 11, respectively. Dickerson recorded a double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds.
