Highlanders thump Ravens
The McLennan Highlanders thumped the San Jacinto Ravens 23-4 this afternoon in non-conference play with Devin Bennett picking up the win on the mound.
The Highlanders broke the game open with eight runs in the top of the third inning. Brecken Menuet was hit by the pitch, and both runners were safe on a fielder's choice by Daniel Harden. Mac Rose walked, loading the bases. Aidan Kuni walked, scoring Menuet., and Harden scored on a sacrifice fly by Deiten Lachance. Sam Flores was hit by the pitch, and Walker Freeman walked to score Rose. Owen Smith also walked, scoring Kuni, and Landon Underhill doubled to score Flores and Freeman. Menuet then singled to score Owen Smith.
San Jacinto scored two runs in the bottom of the inning. Derek Gippson walked and scored on a double by Miguel Morales. Adrian Padro then doubled to score Morales.
McLennan responded with seven runs in the fourth. Rose singled and Kuni walked, both advancing on a wild pitch. Freeman walked to load the bases, and Owen Smith singled to score Rose. Underhill walked, scoring Kuni, and Menuet doubled to score Freeman, Smith and Underhill. Harden followed with a two-run homer.
Two more Highlander runs scored in the sixth. Harden singled and Brodey Williams walked, both scoring on a double by Kuni.
The Ravens added a run in the bottom of the inning. Byron Robinson, Hogan Shelby and Keegan Knutson all singled. Robinson then scored on a fielder's choice by Valera.
The final San Jacinto run came in the seventh. Benjamin walked and Martinez singled. Robinson then reached on an error, scoring Benjamin.
McLennan added five more runs in the eighth. Menuet and Williams both walked, and Kuni was hit by the pitch. Flores singled to score Menuet and Williams, and Marcus Smith walked. Kuni scored on a passed ball, and Flores and Marcus Smith both scored on a double by Owen Smith.
The Highlanders rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the ninth. Menuet singled and advanced on a ground out by Harden. Williams then singled to score Menuet.
