Highlanders sweep doubleheader with Temple
The McLennan Highlanders swept today's doubleheader with the Temple Leopards to win the conference series three games to one.
McLennan came from behind to take game one 10-5 with John Carmichael picking up the win on the mound.
Temple scored one run in the first. Wilson Woodcox singled and advanced on two wild pitches. Andrew Ermis walked and Mason Ashlock was hit by the pitch, scoring Woodcox.
Mac Rose tied the game with a solo home run for the Highlanders in the second.
McLennan took the lead with a run in the second. Owen Smith singled and Brecken Menuet walked. Daniel Harden then singled to score Smith.
The Leopards scored three in the fourth to take the lead. Ashlock was hit by the pitch and Brayden Simmons walked. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Ty Marthiljohni. Cash Russell then singled to score Ashlock, and Jake Weaver singled to score Simmons. Weaver advanced on a wild pitch, and Russell scored on a ground out by Cole Tabor.
The Highlanders added a run in the bottom of the fourth. Walker Freeman singled and advanced on a wild pitch. Harden then reached on an error, scoring Freeman.
McLennan scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. Menuet and Harden both singled, and Rose walked to load the bases. Aidan Kuni walked, scoring Menuet, and Deiten Lachance singled to score Harden and Rose. Brodey Williams was hit by the pitch, and Sam Flores singled to score Kuni. Lachance scored on a passed ball, and Smith singled to score Williams.
Temple rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh as Trent Rucker doubled and scored on a double by Ermis.
The Highlanders took came two 8-5 with Alex Wallace picking up the win on the mound.
Temple scored first with a run in the top of the first. Russell doubled and advanced on a wild pitch. Ermis walked, and Ashlock singled to score Russell.
The Highlanders tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning as Rose singled and scored on double by Kuni.
McLennan took the lead with a run in the bottom of the second. Flores led off with a double and Smith walked. Flores then scored on a sacrifice but by Menuet.
The Leopards tied the game with a run in the third. Woodcox doubled and came around to score on a pair of wild pitches.
The Highlanders took the lead again with two runs in the bottom of the third. Kuni walked and Lachance doubled. Williams singled to score Kuni, and Freeman doubled to score Lachance.
Four more Highlander runs scored in the fifth. Freeman singled and Menuet doubled. Freeman scored on a ground out by Harden, and Rose singled to score Menuet. Kuni was hit by the pitch, and Lachance singled to score Rose. Williams then singled to score Kuni.
Temple rounded out the scoring with three runs in the eighth. Sebastian Arauz and Kolvin Davis both singled. Marthiljohni then doubled to score Arauz. Woodcox and Ermis both walked, scoring Davis, and Ashlock walked to score Marthiljohni.
