Highlanders & Chaps split
The McLennan Highlanders and Vernon Chaparrals split today's conference doubleheader in Vernon to split the series.
Vernon took game one 5-3 with Connor Zaruba taking the loss on the mound for the Highlanders.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning as Deiten Lachance double and scored on a double by Mac Rose.
The Chaparrals tied the game with a run in the second inning. Kylar Galmor singled and advanced on an error. Ethan Bourg then doubled to score Galmor.
Vernon took the lead with two runs in the third. Eric Masionet singled and Kyler Bowman walked, both advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Giovanni Febus. Jesus Rodriguez then singled to score both runners.
Another Chaparral run scored in the fourth. Bourg walked, and Dylan Bojarski singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Masionet. Bourg then scored on a passed ball.
The Highlanders added two runs in the fifth as Brecken Menuet walked and scored on Daniel Harden's home run.
Vernon's final run came in the sixth. Galmor and Masionet both singled. Bowman then singled to score Galmor.
McLennan bounced back to run rule the Chaparrals 14-4 in the nightcap with Devin Bennett picking up the win.
The first Highlander run came in the top of the first inning. Harden walked and Lachance singled. Harden then scored on a ground out by Rose.
Vernon took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Bowman triple and scored on a single by Febus. Febus then stole second and scored on a single by Bourg.
The Highlanders scored one in the second to tie the game. Lucas Kelly singled and Sam Flores was hit by the pitch. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Landon Underhill. Menuet walked, and Kelly scored on a balk.
The Chaparrals took the lead again with a run in the bottom of the second as Hank Hudson walked and scored on a double by Bowman.
McLennan took the lead with four runs in the third. Lachance led off with a home run. Rose and Brodey Williams both singled. Rose scored on fielder's choice by Kelly that put Williams out at second. Flores followed with a two-run homer.
Vernon added a run in the bottom of the third as Travis Bragg tripled and scored on a wild pitch.
Another Highlander run scored in the fourth. Harden singled and Aidan Kuni was hit by the pitch. Harden then stole third and scored on a passed ball.
McLennan exploded for five runs in the fifth. Kelly and Flores both singled, and Underhill singled to score Kelly. Both runners advanced on a sac bunt by Menuet. Harden walked, loading the bases. Lachance then doubled to score all three runners. Rose walked, and Lachance scored on a passed ball.
The Highlanders added a run with Underhill's solo homer in the sixth.
McLennan clinched the run rule in the top of the seventh. Harden walked and Kuni singled. A fielder's choice by Lachance put Harden out at third. Kuni then scored on a fielder's choice by Rose.
