Highlanders & Chaparrals split conference doubleheader
The McLennan Highlanders and Vernon Chaparrals split conference-opening doubleheader
Vernon took game one 7-4 with John Carmichael taking the loss on the mound.
The Chaparrals scored two in the top of the first. Kyler Bowman singled and Travis Bragg drew a walk. Bowman scored on a double by Jesus Rodriguez, and Bragg scored on a sacrifice fly by Adrian Salas.
McLennan scored one in the bottom of the inning. Daniel Harden singled and Aidan Kuni walked. Lucas Kelly also walked, loading the bases. Sam Flores then reached on an error, scoring Harden.
Vernon added a run in the top of the second. Giovanni Febus walked, and Eric Masionet singled. Febus then scored on a sacrifice bunt by Bowman.
The Highlanders tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third. Kuni was hit by the pitch, and Lachance singled. Kelly followed with a single to score Kuni. Lachance then scored on a sacrifice fly by Flores.
The Chaparrals took the lead with three runs in the fifth. Ethan Bourg singled and scored on a double by Bragg. Salas reached on an error, scoring Bragg. Kylar Galmor was hit by the pitch, and Febus singled to score Salas.
The Highlanders final run came in the bottom of the sixth. Brecken Menuet walked and Kuni singled. Menuet advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lachance.
Vernon's final run came in the top of the seventh. Rodriguez reached on an error and advanced to second on another error. Galmor then singled to score Rodriguez.
McLennan bounced back to defeat the Chaparrals 7-1 in game two with Kade Bing getting the win and Clayton Freshcorn picking up the save.
The Highlanders began the scoring with three runs in the third inning. Harden singled and Kuni walked, both scoring on Lachance's home run.
Galmor's solo home run to lead off the fourth would be Vernon's only run.
McLennan added a run in the fifth. Walker Freeman singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Menuet. Menuet then advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Kuni.
Three McLennan runs scored in the bottom of the eighth. Harden and Kuni both walked. Lachance then singled to score Harden, and Kuni scored on a wild pitch. Gavyn Jones followed with a ground out to score Lachance.
