Highlanders get shut-out victory over Brookhaven
The McLennan Highlanders got a 12-0 run-rule win over the Brookhaven Bears this afternoon in the home opener at Bosque River Ballpark. Cade Waibel picked up the win on the mound.
The Highlanders scored three runs in the bottom of the first. Phoenix Meza doubled and advanced to second on a ground out by Mac Rose. Deiten Lachance reached safely and advanced to second on an error, allowing Meza to score. Aidan Kuni followed with a two-run homer.
Three more McLennan runs scored in the second. Xander McAfee drew a lead-off walk, and Landon Underhill singled. McAfee scored on a sacrifice fly by Brecken Menuet, and Daniel Harden followed with a two-run homer.
The Highlanders scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the run rule. Harden singled and Rose doubled. Owen Smith replaced rose as the runner at second. Lachance walked, loading the bases. Kuni walked to score Harden, Sam Flores walked to score Smith and McAfee walked to score Lachance. Underhill then doubled to score Kuni, Flores and McAfee to end the game.
