McLennan Highlanders fall to New Mexico Military
The McLennan Highlanders fell to the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) Broncos 12-4 this morning at the Region V Tournament in Weatherford to end their season with a 38-20 record.
NMMI began the scoring with two runs in the top of the third. Fran Gross singled and Rhett Stokes drew a walk. Both runners scored on a Highlander error.
McLennan tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Jason Hawkins was hit by the pitch but out at second on a fielder's choice by Karon Krowka. Elijah Rodriguez walked, and Ty Johnson was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Krowka scored on a sacrifice fly by Cole Dillon. Britton Moore then singled to score Rodriguez.
The Broncos took the lead with four runs in the fourth inning. Daniel Lizarraga singled and Adonis Bernal was hit by the pitch. Rhett Stokes singled to score Lizarraga and Bernal. B.Y. Choi then singled to score Stokes. Choi advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Owen Alsup.
The Highlanders' final two runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Katcher Halligan singled and Xander McAfee doubled, both scoring on a single by Sam Flores.
NMMI added another run in the sixth. Stokes and Choi both singled. Alsup then singled to score Stokes.
Five Bronco runs in the seventh secured the run rule. Edrien Martinez walked, Jun Hyul Kwon singled and Lizarraga walked to load the bases. Bernal was then hit by the pitch, scoring Martinez. Kwon scored on a ground out by Gross. Stokes walked, and Choi singled to score Lizarraga, and Alsup singled to score Bernal and Stokes.
