McLennan Highlanders fall to Midland
The No. 16 McLennan Highlanders fell to the Midland Chaparrals 13-9 this afternoon in non-conference action.
Midland scored two runs in the bottom of the third. Matthew Sandoval walked and Kyle Lewis was hit by the pitch. Both runners advanced on a sac bunt by Cody Grebeck. And scored on a triple by Rhett Clark.
McLennan tied the game with two runs in the top of the fourth. Britton Moore and Xander McAfee both singled. Brodey Williams followed with a single to score Moore, and McAfee scored on a fielder's choice by Rodric Black.
The Highlanders took the lead with four runs in the fifth. Ty Johnson walked and scored on a double by Cole Dillon. Aidan Kuni and Moore both singled and scored on a double by McAfee. Williams then singled to score McAfee.
The Chaparrals added tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Clark singled and Xavier Melendez walked. Michael Widener was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Landon Pyles doubled to score all three runners. Pyles then scored on a single by Sandoval.
McLennan took the lead once again with a run in the sixth as Johnson singled and scored on a triple by Dillon.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the eighth. Johnson doubled and scored on a double by Dillon. Kuni walked and Moore was hit by the pitch. McAfee then reached on an error, scoring Dillon, and Kuni scored on a sac fly by Williams.
Midland scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth to steal the win. Pyles, Lewis and Grebeck all walked to load the bases. Pyles scored on a wild pitch, and Clark walked to reload the bases. Melendez also walked, scoring Lewis. Grebeck and Clark scored balks, and Rumfield singled to score Melendez. Rumfield stole second and advanced to third on an error, and Weidner walked. Pyles then singled to score Rumfield.
