No. 16 Highlanders sweep Wranglers in conference doubleheader
The No. 16 McLennan Highlanders swept today's conference doubleheader with the Cisco Wranglers at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan took game one 4-3 with Will Clements getting the win and Will Glatch picking up the save.
The Highlanders began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second. Xander McAfee doubled and Aidan Kuni. Rodric Black followed with a singled to score McAfee.
Cisco took the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. Austin Munguia walked and scored on a double by Josh Overbeek. Blake Hubble then doubled to score Overbeek.
Britton Moore led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo win for the Highlanders. Blake Hansen singled and Black walked. Jake D'Altrui then reached on an error, scoring Hansen.
McLennan added a run in the bottom of the sixth. Elijah Rodriguez walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jason Hawkins. Ty Johnson was hit by the pitch and Rodriguez was picked off at third. Moore then doubled to score Johnson.
Cisco rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh. Munguia singled and Overbeek. Munguia then scored on a ground out by Hubble.
Game two was a 13-3 run-rule victory for the Highlanders with Blake Hansen win picking up the win on the mound.
Cisco scored two runs in the first inning. Kenny Dutka singled and advanced on a passed ball. Overbeek and Hubble both walked, loading the bases. Dylan Broadway then singled to score Dutka and Overbeek.
McLennan got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first as Johnson walked, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Moore.
The Wranglers final run came in the top of the second. Idelfonso Garcia reached on an error and advanced around to third on a pair of passed balls. Dutka also reached on an error, scoring Garcia.
McLennan took the lead with seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. Brodey Williams singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Rodric Black. Black advanced on a wild pitch, and D'Altrui walked. Rodriguez also walked, and Black scored on a wild pitch. Johnson was safe on a fielder's choice, scoring D'Altrui. Hansen walked, loading the bases. Moore also walked, scoring Rodriguez, and Kuni walked to score Johnson. McAfee reached on an error, scoring Hansen, and a sacrifice fly by Williams scored Moore. Kuni then scored on a wild pitch.
Five Highlanders runs scored in the bottom of the sixth to steal the run rule. Moore doubled and scored on a double by Kuni. McAfee singled, and Kuni scored on a single by Williams. D'Altrui drew a walk, and Rodriguez followed with a double to score McAfee, Williams and D'Altrui.
