All six McLennan squads ranked in Top-25; Dance team preparing for nationals
Excellence is a tradition and a legacy at McLennan, and no doubt 2023 will be no exception. With spring seasons in full swing, all six McLennan squads that compete at the NJCAA Division I level are ranked in the Top-25 of their respective polls.
Softball, coming off a second-place finish at the 2022 national tournament, is No. 2 in the preseason poll. The squad currently has a 4-2 overall record after shutting out Tyler and San Jacinto on Sunday, and host doubleheaders with Coastal Bend and Trinity Valley this weekend at Bosque River Ballpark.
Baseball was No. 3 in it's preseason poll after competing at the JUCO World Series for two consecutive seasons and winning the national title in 2021. The Highlanders are off to a 5-2 start and host Western Texas for a three-game series Friday & Saturday at Bosque River Ballpark.
Women's Golf competed in three tournaments in the fall, finishing in the top five at each event, and were No. 4 in the final poll of the fall. The Highlassies open the spring season Feb. 20-21 at the Islander Classic in Corpus Christi.
Men's Golf was No. 5 in the final fall poll after finishing in the top six of all four fall tournaments. The Highlanders begin spring play Feb. 17 with a three-team match in Brownwood.
Women's Basketball moved up to No. 9 in this week's poll with an overall record of 19-2. The Highlassies finished the first half of the conference schedule with a mark of 7-1 and host Hill at 5 p.m. Wednesday to open the second round of conference play.
Men's Basketball is moving up the national rankings, coming in at No. 22 this week with an overall record of 19-4. The Highlanders had a 6-1 record through the first round of conference play and host Hill at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the start of round two.
The Dance Company, the only McLennan sport that doesn't compete under the NJCAA umbrella, is preparing for its national championship. The squad has claimed five consecutive National Dance Alliance (NDA) national titles and will be competing for a sixth April 6-7 in Daytona Beach, Florida. A National Championship Show-Off, showcasing the team's two competitive routines, will be held April 2 at 1 p.m. at The Highlands.
