Highlassies fall to Hill in final seconds
The early game came down to the very last second, with the Hill Lady Rebels stealing the 75-74 win.
It was an up-tempo contest from the opening tip. Kinley Brown put the Highlassies on the board with a bucket and one less than 20 seconds into the contest. Tyquanna Ross found the basket for Hill to make it 3-2 with 9:16 to play in the first. McLennan began to roll from that point. An up-and-under layup by Miannah Little started a 9-0 run that put the Highlassies up by 10, 12-2, with just over six minutes to play in the first quarter. McLennan kept up the intensity and led by nine going into the second quarter, 18-9.
The Highlassies continued to push in the second, extending the lead to 15 at 36-21 with 2:11 to go before intermission. Hill began to rally and ended the period on a 9-2 run to cut the McLennan lead to eight at halftime, 38-30.
The second half would prove to be a much closer game. The Highlassies kept the Rebels at arm's length in the third, extending the lead to 11 with 2:15 to go in the period. Hill began to close the gap and trailed by nine going into the final period, 52-43. The Rebels had the momentum on their side to start the fourth, opening on a 5-0 run and continuing to rally until tying the game at 57 with 6:44 remaining the game. McLennan responded with a 9-0 run over the next two minutes and pushed the lead back to 10 at 71-61 with 1:30 to play. Hill wasn't giving up and used an 8-0 run to cut the lead to two, 71-69, with 36 seconds to play. Miannah Little added a free throw to push the lead to three but a Tyquanna Ross drive cut the lead to one, 72-71. Valissa Millhouse added a pair of free throws with 17.8 seconds on the clock to give the Highlassies the three-point advantage, 74-71. Hill's Andreea hit a 3-pointer to tie the game with 11.9 to go and Destanee Roblow went 1-2 from the free throw line with 1.86 seconds on the clock to steal the win.
Mersadez Nephew led the Highlassies with 24 points. Miannah Little and Kinley Brown scored 19 and 13, respectively.
