McLennan Basketball squads receive conference & region honors
The McLennan men's and women's basketball squads claimed a slew of North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference All-Conference and NJCAA Region V awards following their successful seasons on the court.
For the Highlassies, sophomore Mele Kailahi was an all-conference and all-region selection. The guard from East Palo Alto, California, averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Freshman guard Mersadez Nephew of Willis, was an all-conference selection. Nephew averaged 13.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Freshmen Brielle Dorsey and Miannah Little along with sophomores Raija Todd and Jaidyn Fontenette were honorable mention all-conference selections. Little, a guard from Waco, averaged 10.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Dorsey, a forward from Killeen, averaged 5.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.7 blocks per game. Fontenette, a point guard from Sweeny, averaged 4.8 points, 3.3 rebound and 3.1 assists per game. Todd, a guard from Dallas, averaged 12.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.
Sophomore Chris Pryor was named an first-team all-conference and all-region selection for the Highlanders. The guard from DeSoto averaged 12.9 points, 2.6 rebounds 4.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Rayquan Brown was also a first-team all-conference selection. Brown, a sophomore forward from Jonesboro, Georgia, averaged 12.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.7 blocks per game. Dillon Gooding, a sophomore guard from Killeen, was a second-team all-conference selection. Gooding averaged 9.8 points, 2.0 rebounds 1.7 assists and 0.8 steals per game. Freshman Diego Gonzalez and sophomore Kirk Smith Jr. were honorable mention all-conference selections. Gonzalez, a guard from Arecibo, Puerto Rico, averaged 9.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 0.8 steals per game. Smith Jr, a forward from Los Angeles, averaged 8.0 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 2.0 blocks per game.
