Highlanders, Highlassies pick up four-point wins at Collin
The McLennan Highlassies bounced back into the win column with a 62-58 victory over the Collin Lady Cougars this evening in Plano.
McLennan looked a like a different team on the court today. The Highlassies built a five-point lead midway through the first quarter, 9-4. Collin responded with an 8-3 run to close out the quarter, and the two teams were tied at 12 going into the second period.
The Highlassies opened the second on a 5-0 run to go back up by five, 17-12. McLennan extended the lead to seven with one minute to go before intermission but a pair of free throws from Haley Jones cut the lead back to five at the half, 27-22.
McLennan pulled away early in the third quarter, taking its first double-digit lead at 36-26 with 6:29 to go in the quarter. The Highlassies extended the lead to 12, 43-31 with 3:46 to play in the third. The Lady Cougars rallied down the stretch, closing the quarter on a 7-0 run to trim the lead to five, 43-38.
The Highlassies extended the lead back to 10 with 6:52 to go in the contest. Collin rallied once again and took a one-point lead at 58-57 with 1:29 remaining. A bucket by Brielle Dorsey gave McLennan the lead with 1:18 to play. Mele Kailahi went 1-2 from the free throw line and Dorsey added another bucket from the paint in the final minute to secure the McLennan win.
Mele Kailahi led the Highlassies with 16 points. Miannah Little and Brielle Dorsey added 11 points each.
