Highlassies fall to Weatherford
McLennan fell to Weatherford 86-75 on the road
Weatherford opened the game on a 4-0 run. McLennan started slow, allowing the Lady Coyotes to build an 8-point lead with 3:32 to play in the first quarter, 12-4. A pair of buckets from Raija Todd cut the Weatherford lead in half, 12-8, but the Lady Coyotes extended it to seven at the end of the period, 18-11.
The Lady Coyotes began to pull away in the second quarter. Weatherford pushed the lead to 10 early on but McLennan didn't flinch. The Highlassies cut the lead to five, 26-21, midway through the period before Weatherford pulled away again. The Lady Coyotes would led 39-25 at halftime.
It appeared that Weatherford would control the game in the second half as they pushed the lead to 20, 52-32, with 5:57 to go in the third. The Highlassies had other thoughts and began to slowly chip away. Weatherford led 67-51 to start the final period. McLennan continued to hustle on defense and strong shooting from Mele Kailahi and Todd, the Highlassies pulled within five, 79-72, on a Todd 3-pointer with one minute to go. That's as close as McLennan would get as Weatherford ended the game on a 7-3 run to seal the win.
Raija Todd led the way for McLennan with 26 points. Jaidyn Fontenette and Mel Kailahi added 19 and 12, respectively.
