Highlassies top No. 21 Lady Rangers
The Highlassies and Lady Rangers squared off first, and it was the Highlassies walking away with the 71-56 victory to knock off the 21st-nationally ranked Lady Rangers.
Ranger opened the game on a 4-0 run before Jaidyn Fontenette put McLennan on the board with a 3-pointer from the elbow. The Lady Rangers responded with a 3-pointer to put the lead back to four with 7:46 to play in the first quarter. A pair of buckets from Seynabou Thiam and Elizabeth Critton started an 11-0 run for the Highlassies to go up by seven, 14-7. Ranger added a basket late in the quarter to cut the McLennan lead to five after one period of play, 14-9.
McLennan controlled the game from that point forward. The Highlassies outscored the Lady Rangers 19-10 in the second quarter with Kenidi White, Raija Todd, Jade Bradley and Ny'Asia Goldman all hitting from beyond the arc. McLennan would lead 33-19 at the half.
The Highlassies continued to pour in the points in the third quarter and led 55-37 heading to the final period. Ranger pulled within 11 points, 66-55, with just under three minutes to play but that would be as close as they would get. Bradley and Goldman went 5-6 from the free throw line in the final minutes as the Highlassie defense held Ranger to a single free throw to secure the victory.
Jade Bradley led the Highlassies with 23 points. Mele Kaloni Kailahi and Ny'Asia Goldman scored 11 and 10, respectively.
