McLennan Highlassies wallop Cisco in conference opener
The McLennan Highlassies walloped the Cisco Lady Wranglers 97-45 this afternoon in the opening game of North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play.
McLennan came out fired up and energized, opening the game on a 13-0 run highlighted by three 3-pointers from Mele Kaloni Kailahi. The Highlassie defense kept Cisco scoreless for the first four and a half minutes of play. Ne'Khyria Rogers' put the Lady Wranglers on the board with 5:21 to play in the first quarter. McLennan extended the lead to 17 late in the quarter and held the 24-10 advantage after one period of play.
The Highlassies' dominance continued in the second. McLennan extended the lead to 20, 34-14, with 6:38 to play in the second. An 8-0 run of free throws down the stretch extended the lead to 42-19, and McLennan led 45-21 at the break.
Cisco emerged from the locker room with a burst of energy to start the third quarter. The Lady Wranglers opened on a 4-0 run. McLennan responded with a 13-1 run over the next five minutes to continue pulling away. The Highlassies led 67-38 going into the final period.
It was all McLennan in the final period. The Highlassies used runs of 9-0 and 10-1 to put the game even further out of the Lady Wranglers' reach. McLennan outscored Cisco 30-7 in the quarter as they cruised to the easy victory.
Jade Bradley led the Highlassies with 23 points. Ny'Asia Goldman and Raija Todd scored 13 and 11, respectively.
McLennan continues conference play Wednesday, traveling to Ranger to face the No. 24 Lady Rangers at 5 p.m.
