Highlassies squeak by Cisco
The McLennan Highlassies kept their conference winning streak alive with a 66-64 win over the Cisco Lady Wranglers in Cisco.
McLennan opened the game on a 7-0 run. The Highlassies led 19-10 with 1:15 to play in the first. Cisco's Lyndsey Downing drained a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to cut the lead to six, 19-13. McLennan took the first double-digit lead, 25-15, with 6:50 to play in the second quarter. The Highlassies were plagued by turnovers, allowing the Lady Wranglers to rally, cutting the lead to two at the break, 30-28.
Tayla Taylor's layup less than 30 seconds into the third quarter gave McLennan the four-point lead, 32-28. Cisco tied the game at 32 with 8:53 remaining in the third. The teams traded the lead for the remainder of the quarter with Cisco leading 48-47 heading into the final period. The Lady Wranglers extended the lead to six, 59-53, with 4:04 remaining in the game. McLennan rallied and took the 62-61 lead on a Dariel Johnson 3-pointer with just under two minutes to go. Cisco responded with a Downing 3-pointer with 1:11 to play to go ahead 64-62. Ariana Sanders' 3-pointer less than 15 seconds later put the Highlassies up 65-64. A Lady Wrangler 3-pointer bounced off the iron with 8 seconds to play and the ball ricocheted out of bounds. After a scramble on the inbound pass and a Cisco foul, Taylor made one free throw to put McLennan up 66-64 with 1.05 seconds on the clock. The Lady Wranglers advanced the ball following a timeout but couldn't get off the final shot.
Taylor led the Highlassies with 19 points. Sanders and Caylinne Martin added 13 and 10, respectively.
