Highlassies win on the road
The McLennan Highlassies picked up their second consecutive conference victory with a 68-61 win over the Southwestern Christian Lady Rams on Saturday afternoon in Terrell.
McLennan's Kaylin Roher opened the game with a 3-pointer less than a minute into the contest. The Highlassies built a seven-point lead at 16-9 with 13:25 to play in the first half and led 27-22 with just over four minutes to go. The Highlassies ended the half on a 10-0 run to take the 37-22 advantage at the break.
McLennan held the double-digit lead until midway through the second half. The Highlassies led 55-38 with 9:14 to play. Southwestern Christian rallied, using a 19-0 run to take the 57-55 lead, its only lead of the game, with 4:34 to go. McLennan tied the game on a pair of Roher free throws and went 11-12 from the free-throw line down the stretch to seal the win.
Roher led the Highlassies with 20 points. Amani Davis and Caylinne Martin added 11 and 10, respectively. Martin recorded the double-double, pulling down 11 rebounds.
McLennan returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Weatherford. The women's game will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
