Highlassies pull off upset of No. 25 Hill
Barnes leads all scorers
The McLennan Highlassies defeated the No. 25 Hill Lady Rebels 61-59 on Wednesday night in Hillsboro to remain perfect in conference play.
McLennan struggled for the first half of the opening period, allowing Hill to build a 27-9 lead with 7:17 remaining in the half. The Highlassies didn't stop fighting and finally found their rhythm. The squad used an 11-0 run in the next three minutes to cut the lead to seven. McLennan pulled within five but the Lady Rebels extended the lead back to seven at the break. 34-27.
The Highlassies opened the second half on an 8-0 run to take the 35-34 lead, their first of the game, with 18:03 to play. The two teams traded the lead back and forth for the remainder of the game, with neither holding more than a four-point advantage. McLennan led 58-54 with 2:19 on the clock. Hill rallied to tie the game with 39 seconds to play. The Highlassies held the 61-59 lead with 22.1 seconds to play. Hill had a chance to tie the game and force overtime, but both of Shuntay Raglin's free throws bounced off the rim.
Rae'Vaughn Barnes led the Highlassies with 19 points. Kaylin Roher and Shanice Davis added 15 and 14, respectively.
McLennan returns to action on Saturday, hosting Southwestern Christian. The women's game begins at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.
