Highlassies stomp Temple
Shanice Davis leads all scorers
The McLennan Highlassies opened North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play with an 89-65 win over the Temple Lady Leopards on Saturday afternoon at The Highlands.
Both teams struggled with turnovers early in the game and had trouble finding a rhythm. McLennan held the 5-4 lead with 14:56 to play in the first half. The Highlassies used an 8-0 run in the next minute to begin pulling away. McLennan took its first double-digit lead at 22-11 midway through the half and extended it to 24 at the break, 56-32.
Temple opened the second half on a 9-2 run, cutting the lead to 17. The Highlassies pulled away again, leading by as many as 28 down the stretch.
Sophomore Shanice Davis led McLennan with 23 points. Freshman Kaylin Roher and sophomore Rae'Vaughn Barnes scored 13 points each. Sophomore Kyra Bauers added 11.
McLennan returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Ranger. The women's game begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
