Highlassies fall to No. 1 Trinity Valley
Time runs out on Highlassie comeback
In a hard fought game, the McLennan Highlassies fell to the top-ranked Trinity Valley Lady Cards 83-69 on Monday night at The Highlands.
Both teams struggled to get shots to fall early on. Trinity Valley led 12-1 with 11:54 to play in the first half. McLennan fought back, cutting the lead to one with one minute to go. Jazmine Spears' bucket in the paint with 19.28 seconds on the clock put the Lady Cards back up by three. But the Highlassies weren't done. Kaylin Roher drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game at 29 at halftime.
Trinity Valley scored the first five points of the second half. McLennan responded with a 6-0 run to take its only lead of the game at 35-34 with 18:34 remaining in the game. The Lady Cards began to pull away, extending the lead to 18 with 7:45 to go, 65-47. The Highlassies cut the lead to 10 down the stretch but were unable to pull any closer.
Freshman Kaylin Roher led the way with 13 points. Freshman Sha'de Adedapo and sophomore Shanice Davis scored 12 and 10, respectively.
The Highlassies return to action Wednesday, traveling to Brenham for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff at Blinn.
