Highlanders & Apaches split
The McLennan Highlanders and Tyler Apaches split today's non-conference doubleheader in Tyler.
Tyler took game one 8-6 with Kynlei Chapman taking the loss in the circle for the Highlanders.
The Highlanders scored two in the top of the first. Tehya Pitts and Mickayla Tosch both singled. Trinity Allen also singled, scoring Pitts, and Tosch scored on a ground out by MJ Nicholson.
The Apaches got on the board with one run in the bottom of the first. Jolie Bazan was hit by the pitch to lead off the inning. Piper Morton and Chloe Payne both walked, loading the bases. Daniela Gutierrez also walked, scoring Bazan.
McLennan added a run in the third a Tosch was hit by the pitch, stole second and scored on a single by Allen.
Two more Highlander runs score in the fourth. Alyssa Moreno was hit by the pitch but out at second on a fielder's choice by Madison Garcia. Aynsli Lawson singled, and Tosch singled to score Garcia and Lawson.
Tyler took the lead with five runs in the fourth. Gutierrez, Trinity Hawkins and Alinna Cruz all singled. Brooklyn Foster came in as a pinch runner for Hawkins. Payton Bray walked, scoring Gutierrez, and Bazan singled to score Foster. Sydney Farmer was hit by the pitch to score Bray, and Morton singled to score Bazan.
Two more Apache runs scored in the sixth. Morton and Payne both singled, and Gutierrez was hit by the pitch. Hawkins walked to score Morton, and Payne scored on a single by Cruz.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh. Nicholson walked and was replaced by pinch runner Delanie Roeder. Macie Jansky singled and was replaced by courtesy runner Natalie Klenda. A fielder's choice by Ally Thompson put Klenda out at second. Roeder then scored on a wild pitch.
The Highlanders bounced back for an 8-0 run-rule win in the nightcap with Natalie Klenda in the circle.
Tosch began the scoring with a solo home run in the first.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the second. Lilli Piersons led off with a single and Thompson followed with a two-run homer.
The Highlanders added a run in the fourth. Nicholson was hit by the pitch and Piersons doubled. Thompson walked, loading the bases. Madison Levsey followed with a fielder's choice, scoring Nicholson.
Three runs scored in the fifth. Tosch walked and scored on a double by Nicholson. Roeder came in as the pinch runner and scored on a Piersons home run.
McLennan clinch the run rule with one run in the op of the sixth. Allen and Nicholson both singled. Allen then scored on a wild pitch.
