Highlanders complete four-game sweep of Weatherford
The #1 McLennan Highlanders completed the series sweep of the #17 Weatherford Coyotes with a pair of road victories today in Weatherford.
Landrie Harris picked up the 7-2 win in the circle for game one.
The Highlanders scored one in the second. Macie Jansky led off with a double and Ally Thompson singled. Madison Garcia's fielder's choice put Jansky out at third. Aynsli Lawson then doubled to score Thompson.
The Coyotes tied the game with a run in the third. Peyton Young and Sadie Reed both singled. Karlie Landrum then reached on an error, scoring Young.
McLennan took the lead with five runs in the fifth. Lawson walked to lead off the inning. Tehya Pitts and Mickayla Tosch both singled, loading the bases. Trinity Allen walked to score Lawson, and MJ Nicholson walked to score Pitts. Delanie Roeder came in a pinch runner for Nicholson. Tosch scored on a wild pitch, and a fielder's choice by Jansky put Allen out at the plate. Thompson then doubled to Roeder and Jansky.
The Highlanders added a run in the top of the seventh as Allen doubled, advanced on a passed ball and scored on a ground out by Nicholson.
Weatherford rounded out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Hannah Bartels led off with a single and advanced on a wild pitch. Reid then doubled to score Bartels.
Game two was a 17-3 run-rule victory for the Highlanders with Haley Noska picking up the win in the circle.
McLennan score one in the top of the first. Pitts was safe on a dropped third strike and stole second. Allen then singled to score Pitts.
Weatherford took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Alexah Reyes doubled and scored on a double by Reid. Janae Trojacek then singled to score Reid.
The Highlanders went back on top with four runs in the second. Lawson and Tosch were both hit by the pitch. Allen singled to score Lawson, and Nicholson followed with a three-run homer.
McLennan tacked on six runs in the fourth. Tosch was hit by the pitch and scored on Allen's home run. Nicholson singled and was replaced by Roeder at first. Lilli Piersons singled and all runners were safe on a fielder's choice by Madison Levsey. Garcia singled to score Roeder, and Alyssa Moreno doubled to score Piersons, Levsey and Garcia.
Another six Highlander runs scored in the fifth. Roeder singled and Piersons walked. Roeder advanced on a wild pitch, and Piersons stole second. Levsey's sac fly brought Roeder in to score, and Garcia singled to score Piersons. Moreno and Lawson both walked, loading the bases. Pitts singled to score Garcia and Moreno. Tosch walked, and Allen singled to score Lawson and Pitts.
Weatherford rounded out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Bartels led off with a double and came around to score on an error.
