Highlanders & Vikings close series with split
The #3 McLennan Highlander and #5 Grayson Vikings closed out the four-game conference series with a doubleheader split today at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan got the 3-0 shut-out victory in the opener with Landrie Harris in the circle.
The Highlanders scored one in the bottom of the first. Tehya Pitts and Mickayla Tosch both singled. Pitts then stole home.
The final two runs came in the fifth. Tosch was hit by the pitch, and Trinity Allen singled. Both runners advanced on a ground out by Lilli Piersons and scored on a single by Aynsli Lawson.
The Vikings took game two 12-5 with Addyson Canfield taking the loss in the circle for the Highlanders.
Grayson took the lead early, scoring two in the top of the first inning. Matti Matthews singled and stole second. Sophia Jenkins followed with a two-run homer.
Two more Viking runs scored in the second. Daeya Moses singled and Layla Sons doubled. Abby Wood then singled to score Moses and Sons.
Grayson added three runs in the third. Layne Reh walk, Jenkins singled and Halle Giaudrone also walked, loading the bases. Moses was hit by the pitch, scoring Reh. Monica Franklin came in as a pinch runner for Giaudrone, and Jenkins scored on a sacrifice fly by Sons. Wood then singled to score Franklin.
McLennan got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third as Ellie Loveless singled and scored on Tosch's triple.
Two more Highlander runs score in the fourth. Macie Jansky singled and Lawson walked, both scoring on a double by Madison Levsey.
The Vikings scored two in the fifth. Giaudrone singled and Moses was hit by the pitch. All runners were safe on a fielder's choice by Sons. Wood then singled to score Giaudrone and Moses.
McLennan also scored two in the fifth as Allen singled and scored on Lawson's two-run homer.
Grayson rounded out the scoring with three runs in the sixth. Reh singled but was out on fielder's choice by Jenkins. Giaudrone was hit by the pitch, and Accayla King doubled to score Jenkins. Sons drew a walk, and Wood reached on an error to Giaudrone and King.
