Highlanders top Dolphins & Blackhawks
The McLennan Highlanders moved to 11-2 on the season with a pair of wins this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
The Highlanders defeated the Alvin Dolphins 8-0 in the early game with Landrie Harris going the distance to get the run-rule win in the circle.
McLennan scored four runs in the first inning. Tehya Pitts singled and stole second. Ally Thompson walked, and Trinity Allen doubled to score Pitts. Aynsli Lawson walked, and Mickayla Tosch doubled to score Thompson, Allen and Lawson.
Another Highlander run scored in the third as Allen doubled and scored on a double by Tosch.
Two McLennan runs scored in the fifth. Lawson singled and scored on a triple by Tosch. Tosch then scored on a fielder's choice by Lilli Piersons.
The Highlanders secured the run rule in the bottom of the sixth. Ellie Loveless reached on an error, and MJ Nicholson walked. Delanie Roeder replaced Nicholson as the runner at first. Pitts singled, loading the bases. Loveless then scored on a ground out by Thompson.
Natalie Klenda picked up the 5-2 win in the circle over the Southeastern Blackhawks in the second game of the day with Kynlei Chapman picking up the save.
Four McLennan runs scored in the second. Tosch walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Macie Jansky then tripled to score Tosch. Pitts singled and Jansky was out at third on a fielder's choice by Loveless. Both runners advanced on a double steal, and Pitts scored on a ground out by Alyssa Moreno. Madison Garcia followed with a two-run homer.
Southeastern got on the board with a run in the fourth. Lauren Summers singled and Ella Florey doubled. Summers then scored on a ground out by Anna Woods.
The Highlanders added a run in the fifth. Allen walked and Lawson singled. Roeder came in as the pinch runner for Allen. Roeder then scored on a single by Tosch.
The Blackhawks' final run came in the top of the sixth. Lydia Zaruba and Duanna Coyle both singled. Summers then singled to load the bases, and Zaruba scored on a ground out by Florey.
McLennan returns to action Sunday, facing Dodge City at 9 a.m. and Trinity Valley at 2 p.m.
