#1 Highlanders shutout #12 Grayson
The #1 McLennan Highlanders blanked the 12th-ranked Grayson Vikings 8-0 in five innings to advance to Saturday's championship game of the Region V North Tournament in Denison. Sophomore pitcher Brinly Maples picked up the win in the circle, allowing two hits in five innings.
The Highlanders broke the game open with five runs in the second inning. Madison Hornback walked and Chesnee Faile singled, both scoring on a bunt by Mickayla Tosch. Tosch advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Aynsli Lawson, and Ellie Loveless singled. Taylor Meier reached on an error, scoring Tosch. Madison Garcia then tripled to score Meier, and Trinity Allen tripled to score Garcia.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the third. Katia Reyes single and Madison Hornback doubled. Reyes scored on a sacrifice fly by Tosch, and Hornback stole home.
Loveless' solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fourth rounded out the scoring.
