McLennan Softball sweeps Cisco to close regular season
The McLennan Softball squad closed out the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of the Cisco Wranglers this afternoon in Cisco.
McLennan took game one 7-1 with Hailey Hudson getting the win in the circle.
McLennan's first run came in the top of the second inning. Maddie Saven singled, Sydney Kirby doubled and Sidney Campion walked, loading the bases. Saven then scored as Ka'Lyn Watson hit into a double play.
Another McLennan run scored in the third. Erin Plunkett and Jenny Robison both walked and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Riley Rutherford. Plunkett then came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Julia Herzinger.
Cisco's only run came in the bottom of the fourth. Bailey Buck reached first and advance to second on an error. Alyssa Kelley followed with a double to score Buck.
McLennan added four runs in the fifth. Robison doubled, and Rutherford and Herzinger both walked to load the bases. Caitlin Bradley-Tse came in as the pinch runner for Rutherford. Jalie Neff also walked, bringing Robison in to score. Riley Todd came in as the pinch runner for Neff, and Saven singled to score Bradley-Tse. Herzinger scored on a sacrifice fly by Kirby, and Todd scored as Campion hit into a double play.
The final run of the game came in the top of the seventh. Herzinger, Neff and Saven all singled, loading the bases. Kirby followed with the sacrifice fly to score Herzinger.
It was all McLennan in the 19-0 shut-out win in game two with Anissa Arredondo in the circle.
McLennan broke the game open early with six runs in the top of the first. Watson led off with a double and scored on a double by Plunkett. Robison and Rutherford both singled, bringing Plunkett in to score. Hudson then doubled to score Robison, and Neff doubled to score Rutherford and Hudson. Neff advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Saven.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the second. Watson singled, stole second, advanced to third on a fly out by Robison and scored on a single by Rutherford. Herzinger reached on an error, and Hudson doubled to score Rutherford.
Seven McLennan runs scored in the third. Campion singled and Bradley-Tse walked, both scoring on Plunkett's homer. Robison reached on an error and was replaced by Rachel Warren as the runner at first. Rutherford doubled, and Kirby followed with a three-run homer. Neff was hit by the pitch but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Saven. Campion then tripled to score Saven.
McLennan added a run in the fourth. Plunkett walked and advanced to second on a fielder's choice by Warren. Todd then singled to score Plunkett.
The final three McLennan runs came in the top of the fifth. Neff and Saven both reached on errors. Campion followed with the three-run homer.
McLennan advances to the Region V North Championship Tournament May 5-8 in Weatherford. McLennan will play either Cisco or Ranger at 3 p.m. Thursday in the double-elimination tournament.
