McLennan Softball clinches NTJCAC Championship
The seventh-ranked McLennan Softball squad secured the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Championship with a pair of walk-off wins over the Cisco Wranglers this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan took game one 4-3. Hailey Hudson got the win in the circle, recording 12 strikeouts.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first. Sidney Campion, Riley Rutherford and Julia Herzinger all walked, loading the bases. Jenny Robison also walked, scoring Campion.
Another McLennan run scored in the third as Erin Plunkett walked, stole second, advanced to third on a fly out by Rutherford and scored on a single by Herzinger.
McLennan added a run in the sixth. Robison led off with a triple and Maddie Saven walked. Robison then scored on a sacrifice fly by Jalie Neff.
Cisco tied the tame with three runs in the top of the seventh. Bailey Buck single and was replaced by pinch runner Jayden Falcon. Kamryn Gomez singled and was replaced by Kayra Sauceda as the runner. Alyssa Kelley then tripled to score Falcon and Sauceda, and Kelley scored on a sacrifice bunt by Minely Avila.
McLennan secured the win with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Rutherford walked and was replaced by pinch runner Rachel Warren. Herzinger singled, and Robison followed with the walk-off double, scoring Warren.
Game two was a 3-2 walk-off win for McLennan with Cheyenne Floyd in the circle.
Cisco began the scoring with a run in the top of the first as Maddie Murley doubled and came around to score on a McLennan error.
McLennan took the lead with two runs in the third. Campion hit a solo home run. Rutherford was then hit by the pitch and came around to score on a double by Robison.
Cisco tied the game with a run in the top of the sixth. Murley singled and advanced to third on a ground out by Buck. A sacrifice fly by Avila.
McLennan secured the win with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Campion and Plunkett both singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Rutherford. Herzinger followed with the walk-off RBI single.
McLennan will close out the regular season with a noon doubleheader Saturday in Cisco.
The Region V North Tournament is set for May 5-8 in Weatherford.
