McLennan Softball extends win streak to 17
The McLennan Softball squad pushed its winning streak to 17 games with today's dominating wins over Weatherford on the road.
McLennan took game one 13-3 with Hailey Hudson getting the win in the circle.
Hudson began the scoring for McLennan with a solo shot in the top of the second inning.
Weatherford's Annabelle Guay responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the second to tie the game at one.
Jeannette Rios' home run in the fourth made it a 2-1 Weatherford lead.
McLennan took the lead with four runs in the fifth. Maddie Saven led off with a solo home run. Sidney Campion singled and advanced on a wild pitch, and Ka'Lyn Watson drew a walk. Caitlyn Wong then singled to score Campion. Watson scored on a passed ball and Wong scored on a sacrifice fly by Hudson.
Weatherford added a run in the sixth. Charlee Horton drew a leadoff walk and was replaced by Carter Smith as a pinch runner, and Olivia Gutierrez singled. Smith then advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.
Wong singled and was replaced by pinch runner Riley Todd. Hudson singled and was replaced by pinch runner Caitlin Bradley-Tse. Herzinger walked, loading the bases. Rachel Warren came in to run for Herzinger. Robison then doubled to score Todd and Bradley-Tse. Warren scored on a wild pitch, and Jalie Neff singled to score Robison. Maddie Saven doubled, and Campion followed with a triple to score Neff and Saven. Erin Plunkett then singled to score Campion. Watson singled but was caught stealing second. Wong followed with a single to score Plunkett.
McLennan controlled the second game from the opening pitch, winning 15-7 win with Anissa Arredondo picking up the victory in the circle.
McLennan scored five runs in the top of the first. Watson singled, stole second and scored on a double by Plunkett. Wong then singled to score Plunkett. Hudson and Riley Rutherford were both hit by the pitch. A fielder's choice by Herzinger brought Wong in to score. Robison then singled to score Hudson and Rutherford.
Weatherford responded with two runs in the bottom of the first. Sierra Nixon walked and Lencia Powell singled. A fielder's choice by Guay loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly by Haylee Villarreal brought Nixon in to score. Powell then scored on a ground out by Rios.
Wong's solo home run in the second made it a 6-2 McLennan lead.
Weatherford added two runs in the second. Gutierrez doubled and advanced to third on a ground out by Destiney Jones. Karli Manney walked and Nixon singled to score Gutierrez. Guay then singled to score Manney.
Two more McLennan runs scored on in the fourth. Watson singled and Plunkett doubled. Watson scored on a sacrifice fly by Wong. Plunkett then advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on an error.
Two Weatherford runs scored in the bottom of the fourth as Nixon singled and scored on a Guay homerun.
Another two McLennan runs scored in the fifth. Robison led off with a solo home run. Saven walked and advanced to second on a fielder's choice by Campion. A fielder's choice by Plunkett moved Saven to third and put Campion out at second. Saven then scored on an error.
Four McLennan runs scored in the sixth. Rutherford hit a solo home run. Herzinger then singled and scored on Saven's home run. Campion and Watson both singled. Campion then scored on an error.
Weatherford scored another run in the bottom of the sixth. Manney reached on an error and Nixon singled. Manney then scored on a sacrifice fly by Powell.
Wong led off the seventh with a solo home run for McLennan to round out the scoring.
McLennan and Weatherford complete the four-game series with a noon doubleheader Saturday at Bosque River Ballpark.
