McLennan completes sweep of LSU-Eunice
McLennan Softball completed the four-game series sweep of the LSU-Eunice Bengals with a pair of wins this afternoon. Matie Wolkow got the victory in the circle for both games.
Game one was a close match with McLennan getting the 6-5 victory in eight innings.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the top of the first as Ka'Lyn Watson walked, stole second advanced to third on a fly out by Erin Plunkett and scored on an error.
Plunkett's solo home run to lead off the third gave McLennan the 2-0 lead.
LSU-Eunice tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the second. Mari Baldwin singled and Madison Prejean doubled. Ashlyn Roach followed with a single to score Baldwin. Prejean then scored on an error.
Riley Rutherford led off the fourth with a solo home run to put McLennan up 3-2.
McLennan added a run in the fifth as Plunkett doubled, moved to third on a ground out by Caitlyn Wong and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hailey Hudson.
Rutherford added another home run in the sixth to put McLennan up 5-2.
The Bengals scored two in the bottom of the sixth. Baldwin singled and scored on a double by Jessi Cary. Lauren Adams walked and was replaced by pinch runner Janey Cheramie. Carey was out on a double play. Madison Diaville then singled to score Cheramie.
LSU-Eunice tied the game with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Roach reached on an error, Abby Touchet walked and Emily Hoover also reached on an error, loading the bases. Roach was out at home on a fielder's choice by Baldwin. Mikayla Cashdollar came in as the pinch runner for Touchet and scored on a fielder's choice by Cary.
McLennan sealed the win with a run in the top of the eighth. Jenny Robison walked and Maddie Saven doubled. Sidney Campion followed with a single to score Robison.
McLennan dominated game two, getting the 16-4 win in five innings.
Seven McLennan runs scored in the top of the first. Watson reached first and advanced to second on an error, and moved to third on a passed ball. Wong walked and Watson scored on a double by Plunkett. Rutherford then singled to score Wong and Plunkett. Caitlin Bradley-Tse walked and Saven singled to score Rutherford. Campion then singled to score Bradley-Tse and Saven. Watson followed with a double to score Campion.
McLennan added six more runs in the second. Wong led off with a solo home run, setting the single-season record at 21. Plunkett doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Rutherford. Julia Herzinger followed with a two-run homer. Bradley-Tse doubled and scored on a single by Campion. Campion advanced to second on the throw and moved to third on a wild pitch. Watson then singled to score Campion.
LSU-Eunice got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the second as Cary and Baldwin both walked. A Cheramie fielder's choice put Baldwin out at second. Cary and Cheramie then scored on an error.
The final three McLennan runs came in the top of the fifth as Jalie Neff doubled and scored on a home run by Sydney Kirby. Plunkett and Herzinger both singled. Saven then singled to score Plunkett.
LSU-Eunice rounded out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Diaville and Prejean both walked. Taylor Palmer came in as the pinch runner for Diaville. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Roach.
McLennan returns to conference play Wednesday, traveling to Weatherford for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
