No. 10 McLennan routs Ranger
The No. 10 McLennan Softball squad dominated Ranger in this afternoon's doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark to complete the conference-series sweep of the Lady Rangers.
McLennan defeated Ranger 17-1 in the opening game with Hailey Hudson getting the five-inning run-rule win in the circle.
One run score for McLennan in the bottom of the first as Erin Plunkett walked and scored on a triple by Hudson.
McLennan exploded for nine runs in the second inning. Maddie Saven led off with a solo home run. Sidney Campion walked and Ka'Lyn Watson singled. Caitlyn Wong followed with a single to score Campion and Watson. Hudson walked, and Jenny Robison doubled to score Wong and Hudson. Jalie Neff followed with a two-run home. Saven and Campion then both walked and scored on a triple by Watson.
Four more McLennan runs came in the third. Wong and Hudson both singled, and Herzinger was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Robison singled to score Wong and Hudson. Riley Todd came in for Robison as the pinch runner. Saven then singled to score Herzinger. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and Campion walked, loading the bases. Todd then scored on a fielder's choice by Bradley-Tse.
McLennan added three runs in the fourth. Sydney Kirby singled and Hudson was hit by the pitch. Both runners scored on a single by Herzinger. Herzinger advanced to second on an error and Neff walked. A fielder's choice by Saven brought Herzinger in to score.
Ranger's only run came in the top of the fifth. Kelley Taff singled and was replaced by pinch runner Katelyn Crocker. Adrienne Cerda walked, and Crocker scored on a single by Jaylan Meraz.
Game two was a 20-0 run-rule victory for McLennan with Anissa Arredondo getting the win in the circle.
McLennan scored four runs in the first. Watson singled and Plunkett walked. Wong followed with a double, scoring both runners. Herzinger doubled to score Wong, and Riley Rutherford tripled to score Herzinger.
Another McLennan run scored in the second as Plunkett walked, stole second and scored on a single by Wong.
Nine McLennan runs crossed in the third. Rutherford doubled and Saven singled. Rutherford stole home and Saven stole second. Campion singled and Bradley-Tse walked, loading the bases. Watson followed with a grand slam. Plunkett hit a solo home run. Wong walked and Kirby singled. Herzinger followed with a double to score Wong. Kirby scored on a ground out by Rutherford, and Herzinger scored on a Ranger error.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with six runs in the fourth. Bradley-Tse, Watson and Plunkett all singled, loading the bases. Wong followed with a grand slam. Kirby singled and Robison doubled. A pair of sacrifice flies by Rutherford and Neff brought Kirby and Robison in to score.
McLennan continues conference play Wednesday, hosting Hill for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
