No. 10 McLennan sweeps Tyler on softball diamond
No. 10 McLennan swept today's softball doubleheader at Tyler.
McLennan took game one 4-1 with Anissa Arredondo getting the win in the circle.
McLennan began the scoring with a run in the top of the first. Sidney Campion drew a walk and stole second. Caitlyn Wong singled, and Campion scored on a sacrifice fly by Hailey Hudson.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the fifth as Campion doubled and scored on Wong's home run.
Tyler's only run came in the bottom of the fifth. Mallory Webb singled, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out by Alyssa Bates. Kylee Jacks then singled to score Webb.
McLennan added a run with Erin Plunkett's home run in the top of the seventh.
McLennan dominated game two, defeating Tyler 18-6 with Cheyenne Floyd picking up the win.
Tyler scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Jacks and Amanda Skivington both walked and advanced on a passed ball. Jacks scored on a sacrifice fly by Kyleigh Clements, and Skivington scored on an error.
Jenny Robison drew a lead-off walk and Julia Herzinger reached on an error. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Jalie Neff. Maddie Saven followed with a double to score Robison. Caitlin Bradley-Tse reached on an error, loading the bases. Ka'Lyn Watson drew a walk, bringing Herzinger in to score. Wong followed with a grand slam!
Another McLennan run scored in the third. Neff walked and Saven singled. Bradley-Tse followed with a single to score Neff.
McLennan scored four more runs in the fourth. Campion was hit by the pitch, Wong walked, and Plunkett reached on an error to load the bases. Rachel Warren replaced Wong as the runner at second, and Campion scored on wild pitch. Warren scored on a sacrifice fly by Robison, and Herzinger singled to score Plunkett. Neff walked and Herzinger was out at third on fielder's choice by Saven. Hudson then singled to score Neff.
Tyler added a run in the fourth. Leah Hensarling led off with a double and Aliana Marroquin was safe on a dropped third strike, allowing Hensarling to advanced to third. Hensarling then scored on a wild pitch.
McLennan added another run in the top of the fifth. Campion singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Wong. Plunkett then doubled to score Wong.
Tyler avoided the run rule with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Webb walked and scored on a home run by Skivington. Clements followed with a solo home run.
McLennan exploded for six runs in the sixth to secure the run rule victory. Neff and Saven both reached on a pair of errors, and Bradley-Tse singled to load the bases. Watson drew a walk, bringing Neff in to score. Saven scored on a fielder's choice by Campion that put Bradley-Tse out at third. Wong then doubled to score Watson. Plunkett walked, loading the bases. Campion then scored on a wild pitch. Herzinger reached on an error, allowing Wong and Plunkett to score.
McLennan resumes conference play Wednesday, traveling to Ranger for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
